Momfia Tees: For All You Mothers

by on June 6, 2012

I caught up with Aubrey over at Momfia Tees for an email interview about her very fine, brand new shirt shop recently launched for Moms. She and Valerie run the show with design assistance from Aubrey’s husband Midgerock, who has done an excellent job conveying the attitude and humor of this Mom + Mafia (get it?) crew in black and white designs…with a touch of green and orange olive in the martini.

If the following resonates with your Mom soul, you probably need to give this outfit a real close look, and, perhaps, join the Family.

– loving yourself
– loving your kids
– having dreams
– acheiving goals
– rocking hard
– being real
– cool shirts
– nice totes
– coffee mugs too

Interview: Momfia Tees

What’s your name, and the name of your shop?

Nice to meet you, Booker (at the Addison airport). They call me, Aubrey. I have a partner and they call her, Val. We started a little business called Momfia Tees.

So, this is a shirt brand for mother’s that hate their kids?

Booker, my dear, we are a brand for those who hate the haters. We don’t allow mean Moms or ignorant Moms either. We wonder why is it so hard to find nice, normal people. We make shirts for all kinds of Moms, but we don’t do shirts for mothers who love other peoples kids because that is just wrong…and possibly illegal.

Are you part of this momfia movement:

Our movements happen in a diaper. I hadn’t seen that article and its funny, we are like that without knowing of the movement. We started calling our group of Moms The Mafia three years ago as a joke.

If I post this interview do I suddenly come under the watchful eye of the
Momfia…(i.e. do I have to pay for protection?)

Every child is under our watchful eye, they are not required to pay for that protection. We currently do not require any well meaning adults to pay for a similar protection package. But we assume that most grown-ups can kick ass for themselves and we simply provide the backup. Backup can include head nods, dirty looks and pushing a child on the swings if a parent has more than child to manage or has to use the powder room.

We will consider further friendship for chocolate and cheese.

Can customers purchase a shirt from your site without having first seen
the Godfather?

No. But they must first sit through 15 hours of Dora and Elmo.

Tell me more about this Midgerock dude?

Pardon my language but, Midgerock is a sexy beast and an enigma. A couple years ago he designed his first tee and started an online store he now has  nearly 200 designs in his portfolio along with licensed work with Marvel, Lucas Films
and Hasbro.

Does he have business cards made up that say: Momfia Tees design bitch?

Enigmas don’t have business cards. It’s sexy when a man doesn’t take himself too seriously.

What’s the creative process for Momfia T-shirts? Is it collaborative or is
he putting together designs at gun point?

We point something at him but we would like to keep that a trade secret for the moment. Mostly we say “hey, Design Bitch, do this. Now. And make it awesome”

Are you a mother? If yes, how many kids? Ages?

We both are actual mothers. V has a 9 year old daughter and a 6 year old son. A has a 5 year old daughter and a 2 year old son. We met when V’s son and A’s daughter were in the same preschool.

Where are you from?

We are from the vacation capitol of the world, Cleveland, Ohio. (rock n’ roll, bitches!)

When did you launch your business?

Sitting on the porch drinking martinis. Oh wait, you said ‘when’ not ‘where‘. Spring 2012

What was the inspiration for launching a t-shirt business?

There are cool tee’s for nerds and kids but the Mom market is very diluted. We wanted something fun and edgy, something we would wear ourselves.

What differentiates your shop from all the others on the Internet?

The enigma known as Design Bitch. He is insanely clever. We are the obscure. But we also don’t want to be vulgar so that you are not embarrassed to wear your Momfia Tee to a family BBQ.

How’s business?

We are brand new and focusing on networking and getting our name out.

What are the best times of year for t-shirt sales?

Well, Booker, since we just started it is hard to determine. Its always a good time to sport a fresh tee and give one as a gift. Am I right, ladies?

What kind of shirt stock do you use? Why?

It ranges in different styles and makes. Just like our Moms :)

Where do you see your business in a year?

We will be sitting on the porch drinking martinis while barking orders at our team of design bitches.

What’s your favorite design currently?

A: “Cheese Slut” because cheese is my love language.

V: “Say Mom Again” because Samuel L. is a badass just like us.

What’s your bestseller?

Our best seller is “Reservoir Moms”.

Do you have any men wearing your shirts of their own volition?

We do not have any male models to speak of right now. It is something I would love to see down the line. I would like to add, men make up 43% of our fan base. Either they are real supportive or they have a MILF fetish.

Where can people find you?

Our website is:
Twitter: @Momfiatees

We have a you tube channel: MomfiaTees. Check back this summer for new content.

Anything else to add?

Booker, I really appreciate you giving a couple of Moms the opportunity to chat with you. We love your work and feel honored to have gotten your attention.
