Philadelphia’s Veterans Stadium was a rough place, but it housed the Eagles from 1971-2002 and the Phillies from 1971-2003 with aplomb. So, there was obviously the Philly pride, and I’m sure they had some damn fine pretzels, but I’m not quite sure what the prison means. Perhaps the site has been retrofitted to house criminals. I’m going to do 19 seconds more research to see if I can find the answer to this important question.
Nope. The stadium was actually imploded in 32 seconds in 2004 according to Wikipedia. Must be the rabble rousers in the crowd, who brought a criminal element to the proceedings that prompted this word on the shirt.

The Vet had a holding prison in the basement
@buddy – thanks for the info on this. What an odd place to have a holding prison or maybe not.
@Booker – They needed the jail. The shit that went down at that place was amazing.
@Sterling – that’s funny and I guess I have heard things about Philly.
Not only did they have a holding prison, but they actually had a court! There were so many offenses committed there they had a judge on hand to try them right away so it wouldn’t back up the regular system.
I can’t see the other posts so I don’t know if it’s been noted yet but, in it’s later years, I believe exclusively during Eagles games, the Vet had it’s own judge and lockup right on site so anyone who was deemed worthy enough would go right to prison, no passing Go, nor collecting the $200. Talk about government efficiency! And just today, 10/21/14, that judge, Seamus McCaffery was suspended from the PA Supreme Court for his part in exchanging explicit email’s on the state email system.
