I asked Mr. .blackeye himself about the high price of the shirts $50 AUD (about $45 USD), because that’s more than the normal shirts I review. Here’s what he said:
“I understand they are on the higher-end in the pricing of T-shirts… It may be that the price conscious consumer will be turned away from the brand because of the price. It is not so much of a status thing, but we spent considerable time sourcing the best quality T-shirts for our brand, both in terms of quality and fit which cost significantly more to produce. There were many cheaper options available which we could have chosen which were not fitted and the material of poorer quality which would have gone against what we wanted when we created the label.
“I think once the customer sees the quality of the T-shirt, they will understand why it has been priced accordingly. Hopefully that will be more obvious once the brand gets more attention and becomes stocked at retailers. The feedback we have received on the quality of our T-shirts from customers who have purchased them has always been really positive.”

No, we only sell online at the moment.
When did you launch your business?
April 2012 (very recently!).
What was the inspiration for launching a t-shirt business?
Getting bored of my commercial job, wanting to do something different and something I was passionate about, which was T-shirts!
What differentiates your shop from all the others on the Internet?
Our online shop features an interactive vending machine which is unique from other online shops. You click on the buttons on the vending machine to actually order a T-shirt!
We have just launched very recently and the feedback we have received on our designs and the quality of our T-shirts have been fantastic, which is a real positive for us!

Where do you get your designs?
We came up with the concepts for the designs ourselves.
Do you have any specific creative inspiration? Tell me more about the black + one bright color?
We were thinking about ways to make .blackeye T-shirts unique and “stand out from the crowd”! We felt that having one bright color for each design was something which would make our T-shirts unique and would be a nice touch to the designs. When we came up with the designs we had this in mind to make sure that the bright colour was appropriate for each design and be visually appealing.
What sorts of people do you think will really dig your designs?
The designs are targeted at younger males between the ages of 20-35 given the style and fit of the T-shirt but we have had a lot of interest from those slightly older. There are a wide variety of design styles to suit different tastes (some more serious than others), so hopefully a lot of people will like the designs!
What kind of shirt stock do you use? Why?
We spent considerable time sourcing the best quality T-shirts in Australia for our brand and am confident that our T-shirts are of the highest quality. Our featured classic T is a fitted T-shirt is a light-weight 150gsm T-shirt made from 100% soft combed cotton in Australia.
Where do you see your business in a year?
Hopefully, the .blackeye brand name will have a greater following in Australia with some overseas sales and loyal customers, and we will release another range of approximately 10 designs

We only sell men’s Tees.
Is there a subject matter that you sell most of?
No, not specifically. We have a wide range of designs to suit different tastes and preferences.
